Here’s a shot of our Fort Peck playground shot yesterday afternoon, February 27, 2022. Get registered, dude, you’re not going to want to miss it!
Our good friend, Pat Heppert, is a Carhartt kind of guy. He thinks Gortex is for sissies. Well, Montana feels like a Carhartt kind of place. No sissies there, either. So, our commemorative clothing item selection was a no-brainer. Only one question needed to be answered, “what would Pat wear?” Here it is, but you can’t buy one unless you are registered.
Want one? Get registered. We need to give our food suppliers the headcount for our social functions ASAP. Oh yeah–quantities and sizes of this collector’s edition vest are limited, so don’t delay. Pat will be looking particularly sexy wearing this hot little number, but you could be whining like a little girl because you missed out. Here’s the link– https://montana.iceboat.org/

Registration for the inaugural Hard Water Summit is open. Target dates remain March 13 – 18, but in the event that Mother Nature serves up the Hollywood ice and perfect weather forecast early, we may shift to the week prior. Similarly, if she decides to dump some white stuff leading up to our target week, we may delay to the next week to allow the ice to clear.
March is high school athletic tournament time, so it would be a good idea to book your hotel reservation right away. Our guaranteed room block is limited, so if you miss out, you may be out of luck. Or sleeping in a tent on the ice, if you are hardy like Andy Gratton.
Stay tuned for news on our limited edition commemorative clothing item that you will have the option to purchase. It’s certain to be a collector’s item and it will make you look 10 years younger when you are wearing it at the bar.
While you’re all waiting for the next update on the Northwest regatta, check out the ice today in the “Middle of Nowhere,” Fort Peck Lake, Glasgow Montana–the site of the inaugural Hard Water Summit, March 13 – 18. It’s a balmy 17 degrees below zero today. The light snow that fell recently has been nearly blown clear. Ice thickness, 20-24″. The typical warm weather days will be polishing up the ice for us over the next couple weeks. You’re not going to want to miss this one!
Also, standby for official registration to open today or tomorrow. Be advised that March is high school tournament season, so the size of our guaranteed room block is limited. Jump on it because you’re not going to want to miss this one. (And Andy Gratton will confirm it’s a little chilly sleeping in a tent on the ice).
See you out west!

We just learned there is a chance we will be competing for hotel rooms next March with the Montana State High School Wrestling Tournament. As you know, our dates are fluid within a 3-week window; the wrestling authorities have yet to choose their date.
To put us in the best position to negotiate a block of rooms well in advance, please fill out our survey, IF you are a likely participant. In the event we are forced to “ration” rooms in our block, we will do so based on the chronology of survey submission (i.e., earliest survey respondents will get first-right-of-refusal on reserved rooms).
Have you started building your new boat yet for the event?

Where will you be in 365 days? Picture yourself pulling sheet as you accelerate upwind, sailing the vast open expanse of Fort Peck Lake in Montana.
Daniel’s March 3 Facebook post asking “Who wants to go to Fort Peck” received a strong response from ice sailors who are eager for a Baikal-like adventure at Fort Peck Lake.
The first half of March is typically the area’s best ice sailing. Daniel, myself, and a few others are planning a Hard Water Summit open to all ice sailors around a 3-week window, from which we will select the best week as conditions are known.
If you are interested in joining us, please visit the Hard Water Summit page and fill out the survey. Glasgow is a small community, and capacity for our entourage could be limited, so don’t delay!
